Information
on Spanish majors and minors here.
|
Minoring
in a foreign language provides majors in all fields with valuable
ability to communicate in a second language, to understand another culture,
and to contribute to the world community at large. The French and Italian
minors are particularly geared toward international experiences,
and the majority of students in these programs travel to France or Italy
as part of their course of study.
While
gaining familiarity with the three major components of human activity
among specific nations or peoples--language, literature, and culture--language
minors are given the opportunity to develop critical thinking, so as to
be able to understand, judge, and enjoy the accomplishments of some of
the greatest geniuses the world has ever seen. The rich literary and artistic
traditions of neo-Latin languages are studied not only for their universal
value and their relationship to the literary movements of the Western
tradition, but also as unique expressions of the social, political, and
economic conditions peculiar to each nation.
